We have a great Winter Directors Meeting planned for Head Start and ECEAP directors and senior staff. As you know, these meetings are a great opportunity to get valuable updates, help guide WSA’s work in Olympia and DC, and learn from your peers. Participants will have the opportunity to attend one or two days of the WSTC Winter Directors Meeting. Thursday December 4: State Policy Issues 9am to 9:15am Welcome and Introductions 9:15am to 10:15am DEL Update Nicole Rose, ECEAP Administrator from DEL will be on hand to give us the latest updates on ECEAP and her thoughts on the future of the program. 10:15am to 11am TANF Reform Update Lori Pfingst, Research Director at the Washington State Budget and Policy Center, will be joining us to talk about the work they are leading to reform the state’s TANF system. 11am to 11:15am Break 11:15am to 12noon State Legislative Update Melissa Johnson, WSA’s contract lobbyist, will be joining us to give us a state legislative update and a preview of the upcoming legislative session. 12noon to 1:30pm Networking Lunch 1:30pm to 2:30pm Environmental Scan of Early Learning Jodi Haavig from the Gates Foundation and Hannah Lidman, an early learning consultant, will be joining us to share the results of a recent survey they completed and its implications 2:30pm to 3:30pm Education Policy Update Frank Ordway, Government Affairs Director at the League of Education Voters will be joining us. 3:30pm to 3:45pm Break 3:45pm to 5pm Early Achievers 2.0 Ryan Pricco from Child Care Aware will provide an update on Early Achievers and lead a discussion about what the future of Early Achievers might look like.
Friday December 5: Federal Policy Issues 9am to 10:30am Federal Policy Update Adele Robinson, former Deputy Executive Director for Policy and Public Affairs at NAEYC will be joining us. Adele has 24 years of policy experience and recently opened up her own consulting business. She will be providing us a federal policy update and give us her thoughts on the future of early learning. 10:30am to 10:45am Break 10:45am to 12:15pm Office of Head Start and T/TA Updates Nancy Hutchins from the Office of Head Start and Claudia Shanley from T/TA will be joining us to provide an update and answer your questions. 12:15pm to 1:30pm Lunch 1:30pm to 2:15pm Head Start Collaboration Office Update and Discussion Caitlin Jensen, Head Start Collaboration Project Director, and April Messenger, Project Manager, will join us to give some updates and hear your thoughts about the direction of the office. 2:15pm to 2:30pm Break 2:30pm to 3:30pm Head Start Key Discussions We will break into small groups to talk through some of the issues impacting Head Start programs. Some topics already raised for discussion include the health and safety protocol, revised program performance standards, streamlining professional development and dual ratings, planning for the 50th anniversary of Head Start, and use of data. 3:30pm to 4:00pm Report Backs from Small Groups 4:00pm to 4:15pm Final Thoughts and Close
