Our WSA Fall Association meeting is coming up soon! It's October 24-26, WA at the Red Lion Hotel. We have a great lineup!

With so much going on in DC and our on-going state legislative work we are bringing you most up to date and cutting edge information. On the federal front you will get to hear from Colleen Rathgeb, policy director at the Office of Head Start and Tommy Sheridan, Senior Director of Government Affairs at the National Head Start Association. Colleen will be sharing with you the latest developments impacting Head Start and updates from DC.  She is doing both a plenary session and a 90 minute question and answer session. We are really excited to have her join us. Tommy will be doing a federal update where you will learn about Head Start appropriations, a potential reauthorization, and other issues that we all need to be keeping a watchful eye on. He will also be doing a grassroots training.

Want to sharpen your organizing skills? Sarah Scanlon a long time organizer and trainer with Wellstone Action will be joining us. And to top it all off we have Frank Ordway and Kelli Bohanon both from the Department of Early Learning to talk with you about ECEAP and the latest on the new Department of Children, Youth, and Families.

One of the things we are most excited about is on the last day we are hosting a 3 hour deep dive Poverty Simulation through Washington State University. Through this interactive opportunity participants will live in poverty for a month while others role play various members of the community. We are thrilled that we can offer this to our members. And don’t worry we still have a motivational speaker to lift our spirits and a fun evening activity still in the works. Hope to see all  of you soon!

Other sessions include:
  • Immigration Rights Workshop with Immigration Attorney (and past Parent Ambassador!) Emma Aubrey.
  • New childcare rules and ECEAP/Early Achievers Alignment
  • Senator Sharon Brown (R-Pasco)
  • Strengthening Families with Victoria Hilt
  • New Early Learning feedback report to follow our kids into K-12
  • Hot Topics discussions - maintaining full enrollment, inclusion classrooms, supporting children in child welfare
  • And more!
